If you’re planning a scuba diving trip to Gili Trawangan, you’re in for an underwater treat. This tiny island off the northwest coast of Lombok is surrounded by crystal-clear waters, vibrant reefs, and incredible marine life. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced diver, Gili T offers something for everyone — from peaceful coral gardens to thrilling drift dives with turtles and reef sharks.
Here are the top 5 dive sites in Gili Trawangan that every diver should add to their bucket list.
1️⃣ Shark Point – The Island’s Signature Dive
Level: Advanced Open Water (recommended)
Depth: 10–30 meters
Shark Point is Gili Trawangan’s most famous dive site — and for good reason. This drift dive takes you along sloping reefs and sandy channels where white-tip reef sharks, turtles, and schools of snapper are common sightings. The site changes character with depth: shallow coral gardens above, and deeper areas with sea fans and soft corals below.
On a good day, you might also spot trevallies, bumphead parrotfish, or even mobula and eagle rays cruising by. Currents can be strong, so this site is best enjoyed with an experienced guide — such as our team at Mango Dive Gili Trawangan.
2️⃣ Turtle Heaven – Meet the Gentle Giants
Level: Open Water and above
Depth: 8–35 meters
As the name suggests, Turtle Heaven is exactly that — a paradise for sea turtles. Green and hawksbill turtles rest on the coral ledges or swim gracefully through the shallows, completely unbothered by divers.
The site’s coral bommies are home to clownfish, lionfish, moray eels, and blue-spotted stingrays. It’s an easy, relaxing dive with little current, perfect for photographers and newer divers.
Many of our guests say that diving here feels like “swimming in an aquarium” — calm, colourful, and unforgettable.
3️⃣ Halik – The All-Round Favourite
Level: All levels
Depth: 5–30 meters
Halik sits just off the north side of Gili Trawangan and offers something for everyone — from shallow coral gardens to deeper sandy slopes. The reef is bursting with life: pufferfish, green and hawksbill turtles, whitetip reef sharks, batfish, fusiliers, nudibranchs, and occasionally blacktip reef sharks patrolling the drop-off.
Mild to medium currents make Halik ideal for drift dives, allowing you to relax and float along the reef while enjoying the show. Because of its consistent visibility and variety of marine life, Halik is one of the most requested dive sites at Mango Dive.
4️⃣ Meno Wall – A Calm and Colourful Drift
Level: Open Water and above
Depth: 10–30 meters
Between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno lies Meno Wall, a gentle drift dive famous for its vertical coral wall covered with soft corals and sponges. Look closely into the cracks and crevices — you’ll find leaf scorpionfish, ghost pipefish, and tiny shrimp hiding in the shadows.
It’s also a turtle hotspot, with both green and hawksbill species commonly seen gliding by. Meno Wall is great for underwater photography, thanks to its beautiful light and moderate current.
5️⃣ Bounty Wreck – Artificial Reef Full of Life
Level: Advanced Open Water
Depth: 10–25 meters
Just off the coast of Gili Meno lies the Bounty Wreck — the remains of a sunken pier that has transformed into a thriving artificial reef. Covered in hard and soft corals, it now attracts schools of batfish, trevallies, glassfish, and the occasional octopus.
The structure makes for incredible silhouettes and is a dream site for underwater photographers. With easy access and usually mild currents, it’s also one of the best wreck dives near Gili Trawangan.
🐢 Bonus: Simon’s Reef
If you’re looking for something a little deeper, Simon’s Reef is a hidden gem. It’s a complex series of pinnacles covered in vibrant soft corals, teeming with reef fish and occasional pelagic visitors. Best suited for advanced divers due to depth and currents, it offers one of the most pristine reef environments in the Gilis.
